Rediscovering Stamp Collecting As An Adult

3 Ways To Keep Your Kids Occupied And Productive This Summer Holidays

December and January are two of Australia's favourite months for a number of reasons, ranging from the national sport of cricket being constantly on the TV to the enjoyment of long, warm evenings spent outside eating from the barbecue. There is plenty to do, and many people take this time off work to spend time with their children during school holidays. However, after a few weeks, it can be hard to think of new things that keep your kids engaged for any meaningful amount of time, and it is never nice to see them spend all day playing video games. Here are a few activities they can enjoy that also double as a proactive use of their time.

Custom Picture Framing

Arts and craft supplies are a staple of any parent's arsenal in keeping their kids occupied, but unless you have a specific plan in mind, then letting your kids run loose with the supplies can be a little unfruitful. Why not try and create a custom picture framing that you can store a treasured memory of you and the kids in, perhaps even a photo of your time spent making the frames. This will be a fun memory for you to share with your kids, and it can take quite a while, keeping your kids occupied for hours at least. All it requires is a few supplies from your local hobby shop, and you can experiment with different materials to create fun and wacky designs. Cardboard, felt, fabric and even clay can be fun mediums to try and make a picture frame out of, so let your kids get creative!

Summer Sport

There are many summer sport programs for kids of all ages. These can run for a single afternoon to weekly sessions or actual camps that the kids can go on, on their own. Tennis, touch football, AFL, athletics, swim schools, soccer and cricket all run clinics during the summer month, and these can be very cheap and run for hours at a time. Ask your kids what their favourite sports are and make sure this is a mutual decision; forcing your kid to do something can result in a very negative experience for both of you. Summer sport is a great way to get your kids outside and keep them healthy and active as well as give them a hobby to maybe pursue in the future.

Writing And Creative Classes

Perhaps the opposite to the summer sport option, there are many classes and programs for kids that are more inclined to the arts and sciences. These, like their more active counterparts, can go for different amounts of time and range from being held at the local library to community centres and school buildings. Giving your kid the chance to follow their interests in creative writing, scientific experimentation or even computer coding can be a great way for them to really grow their academic knowledge and thus help them at school after the holidays. Remember that this has to be a joint decision between you and your kids and, for many of them, the idea of staying inside will be very unappealing.
